Significance Assessments

Jen works with organisations and community groups to undertake Significance Assessments of their cultural or historical materials. Significance Assessments are undertaken to determine the cultural or historical importance of items or collections. They draw from the knowledge of the people to whom the item or collection holds significance, as well as broader research, to describe why it is significant and to make recommendations to support decision-making about the future of the item or collection. It can be drawn upon to educate the public or potential funders about the significance of the item or collection and for the purpose of advocating for resources, or in planning around the display, storage and maintenance of collections. Jen develops Significance Assessments in keeping with the standards set by the Collections Council of Australia as outlined in Significance 2.0. She can support an organisation or individual navigate the whole process of getting an assessment off the ground through to delivering the final assessment report.
